I have a confession to make.
But satan wants me to keep quiet.
He says it’s not important, that nobody cares about what I have to say.
It’s just a passing thought, no harm done.
Note: I was planning to post on the barrier of Doubt today, but as I woke up this morning, Jesus began speaking to me about something deeply personal that ties right into it: Intrusive thoughts, secret anger, and the enemy’s hidden traps.
Have you ever had a moment where someone close to you knows exactly how to “bait” you?
They press that one specific button, and in a split second, a flash of anger rushes into your mind.
You might not say anything out loud.
You might exert incredible restraint and keep your mouth shut. But inside your mind, that anger is shouting.
Maybe you mumble it under your breath, or let it replay like a loud whisper in your thoughts.
You realize what is happening, you immediately give it to God, and the thought disappears. It only lasted for a minute. You think it is over.
But then, an hour later, that same angry thought wants to resurface.
It creeps back in, and suddenly, Satan uses it to throw a brand-new barrier into your prayer life: Doubt.
The enemy whispers, “If you were really a mature Christian, you wouldn’t have thought that.
You aren’t actually forgiven.
Look at the static on your line.”
And suddenly, you start doubting the absolute reality of God’s complete forgiveness.
This is a major barrier to answered prayer that many of us suffer through in complete silence. We think that because the battle is hidden inside our minds, it doesn’t matter.
But I have a secret weapon to quiet these thoughts and to expose that liar, satan. We all know this secret; the Bible tells us exactly how to handle these sudden sparks:
“My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry, because human anger does not produce the righteousness that God desires.” — James 1:19-20
Shift Your Focus and Guard Your Mind
- Philippians 4:6-7: “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
- Romans 12:21: “Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.” [1, 2]
Prevent Bitterness from Taking Root
- Ephesians 4:26-27: “In your anger do not sin: Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry, and do not give the devil a foothold.” [1]
- Ephesians 4:31-32: “Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice. Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.” [1]
AMEN!
