Fishing, what a wonderful relaxing way to spend the day. Just sitting, and letting the line drop into the water. Just waiting to see what if you get a bite. Just relaxing and letting the day drift by. No worries, just peace and quiet. Who knows? You might catch a nice big fish for dinner.
Or not.
Then there are those who fish for other things. We all know those who are “fishing” for compliments. “Look at me! Look at what I have done! Look at my big house and brand new car!”
And there are those who are bored with their life. There’s nothing new and exciting to do! They want to get lost in something different. They have no interest in anything lasting.
BOREDOM: The gateway to fishing. Fishing for something that will make them feel something. Again. Slowly you open that gate. Everything looks okay, nothing special.
Quiet. Harmless. It won’t hurt to try it. To see what happens. After all, who is it going to hurt? Right?
But it feels off, even though it is nothing special. Something, or someone, is telling you not to go through with it.
Why? I don’t see anything wrong with it. it is a simple little game. I just want to try it to see if I like it. I want to be part of it, I want to fit in. No harm. No foul.
STOP!
Can’t you see it?
What? Where?
It’s hard to see, a tiny, thin wire hanging. Look closely!
What am I looking at?
A hook. You can just barely see the tip of it on the wire. You need to get out of here. Now!
I still don’t see anything. It’s no big deal, I’ll be okay.
Watch out!
No! I am fine. I can handle this.
And the voice fades, barely audible. I try to drown out the voice, but it is still there.
I still don’t see anything wrong and decide to go ahead with the game. I glance at the rules. I ignore the fine print, it doesn’t mean anything, just nonsense. Nothing important. I try it and it’s fun! I like it!
And that tiny little hook comes closer, slowly. I keep playing. I’m okay. That’s what I tell myself, I am in control.
The voice is back. Trying to warn me to stop.
I ignore that voice. The voice starts to irritate me and I want it to stop! I tune it out.
The hook is in. I don’t mind it as the game is fun and I like it.
I like it more than the voice. The voice that tells me to stop. To turn back before it is too late.
Time passes. Days blend into each other. I don’t know what day it is. It feels as if an eternity has passed. I don’t remember what has happened, it is all a blur. I need to get away from that game. I need to breathe.
I walk away from the game so I can get some fresh air.
The voice is back. It is quiet. I don’t want to hear what the voice has to say, that I told you so. It is trying to say come back to Me, but I tune it out.
Another voice. This one is telling me to come back to the game. That I have to finish it. Say what? Finish it?
Yes, it says. I try to walk away from the game as I am tired of it.
It says NO! It is accusing! It is Harsh! It hurts my head to hear it, but I still want to go back even though I am tired of it. I have to come back and finish the game. It says I have to come back to the game. I belong there. There is no other option.
The quiet voice speaks up! Loud and with authority! No! You do have a way out. Come back to Me! You belong to Me.
I feel torn apart. I don’t know where to turn. The quiet voice says Trust me. I am here for you. Always.
The other voice says NO! He is mine.
I turn away and go back to the quiet voice. I follow HIM.
