Just a quick question to think about. What does Jesus ask of you in order to get into Heaven?
Good works? Faith and belief in Him? Knowledge of the Bible? Prayer?
Take a moment to examine your heart today. The answer is clear: it is through faith and belief in Jesus alone that we are saved. Reading the Bible, praying, and doing good works are beautiful ways we grow closer to Him after we are saved, but they cannot earn our way to Heaven. Jesus paid it all!
Let’s explore this a little further. Everyone can agree that the grass is green and the sky is blue, we all believe it to be true. That’s easy. But you can believe in Jesus and still not be saved.
Let me explain. There is a pool of clear water. It is a hot day and you want desperately to jump in but you’re not sure that you want to get wet. You want to cool off but you’re unwilling to take that first step into the pool.
Why?
You know that Jesus is the Christ, but you’re afraid of what might happen if you admit it to yourself. To Him. Oh, I am not sure that I can allow that. The problem is that you want to be the king of your heart, and you believe in Jesus, but just a little bit. You protest that I am me and I, alone, rule my heart. Jesus can take a small part and I will let Him out when I want… When I want to show everyone that I am a good person. Look at me! I am a Christian! Look at all the good things I have done! I have witnessed, I gave money to the poor. And on and on!
SORRY! “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. On that day many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name?’ And then will I declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from me, you workers of lawlessness. ” -Matthew 7:21-23
You trusted in your own works to get into Heaven. When you assume that you will get into Heaven, you have shown that you rely on yourself and “your good deeds” and not in Jesus.
But those who hope in the Lord trust in Jesus to get into Heaven.
Get off of your throne, abdicate it to Jesus and let Him rule your heart, soul, mind and body. That is the ONLY WAY to get into Heaven by submitting to HIM alone.
